Science vs Art

Left: NASA photo of Coronal Loop (2007), Right: Lucky enhancement of Cat's Eye Nebula (2007)When I shudder at the work of former alumni of the Royal College of Art (next blog down) I can't help thinking that Science is producing far more interesting and beautiful images than is so-called Art. Take these two photos I've combined. On the left is a NASA photo of a coronal loop, on the right the Cat's Eye Nebula enhanced by the latest scientific do-dad called Lucky (title link). These images fill me with wonder. They have the Wow! factor I expect from art. Gaze upon Francis Bacon's work, ye mighty, and despair. (Apologies to Shelley: CLICK.)
