Ban The Bomb at 50
Did you know that this year is the 50th anniversary of the creation of that world-famous peace logo by Gerald Holtom in 1958? As we already had a centuries-old peace symbol - a white dove carrying in its beak an olive branch -, we didn't need another. So this became the logo for Ban The Bomb (the atomic variety). Then, as Teddy boys put away their flick knives and a new generation of drug-hazed flower-power hippies took to the streets, it adopted the meaning Make Love, Not War, hardly the semaphore its designer had in mind. Rather rude, really.
