Fontainebleau Forest

Here's a dramatic landscape by Gustave Courbet I hadn't seen before, probably because it lives in The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, USA, a gift of Caroline Wiess Law. The Gust of Wind (ca 1865) is one of 96 exhibits in an unusual and imaginative exhibition which doesn't look at one artist or at a school of artists, but at a forest which inspired generations of artists and photographers. In the Forest of Fontainebleau: Painters and Photographers from Corot to Monet opened yesterday at MFAH and continues until 19 October.
