Stolen Art Collection
When William M.V. Kingsland (born Melvyn Kohn) died intestate in 2006, his New York City apartment contained more than 300 works of art: paintings, sketches, sculptures. The New York Public Administrator’s Office tried to dispose of this treasure trove through auction houses Christie’s and Stair Galleries, but records showed that some of them had been stolen. Enter the FBI. New York Special Agent Jim Wynne of the FBI’s Art Crime Team needs help in establishing the rightful ownership of many pieces in this collection, some of which are now known to have been stolen in the 1960s and 1970s. Visit the FBI website to trawl the treasures (title link). This illustration is one of the more modern works: Hananiah Harari's Portrait of a Boy. Recognize him?
