Charles Avery: Islanders
Here's another exhibition which opened today, this one in London at Parasol Unit: Charles Avery The Islanders: An Introduction, which continues until 8 November. Despite being labelled "contemporary art" and being supported by the Henry Moore Foundation, this exhibition is both artistic and intriguing. It shows the latest instalment of Charles Avery's epic fantasy The Islanders, which he began in 2004. The images seem to have been torn from a giant comic book with high-quality pencil sketches of island folk, weird scenes and monsters. It demands a narrative, but lacks one, a Tolkien sketchbook without a Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. Recommended.
