Jeff Koons Versailles

Jeff Koons - Rabbit (1986) exposé dans le Salon de l’AbondanceDoes Jeff Koons' Rabbit (1986) look out of place here? Modern stainless steel amid palatial ormolu, a nouveau riche lagomorph cringing beneath Old Money? Whatever, Jeff Koons Versailles opened today with 17 works sprinkled around the Royal Apartments and gardens of Chateau de Versailles. He's obviously determined to upstage Sotheby's Beyond Limits sale at Chatsworth in Derbyshire, which opened yesterday (CLICK). The Koons show continues until 14 December (title link). For some reason Versailles always reminds me of the French Revolution. Ah, those were the days: nibbling your frogs' legs while watching the heads of fat cats bouncing in the basket under la guillotine. Much more fun than Big Brother, and it had a serious social purpose: égalité.
