Texas Beyond History

Nola Davis - Butchering A MammothWhile browsing for something else, I chanced upon this excellent painting by Nola Davis of a prehistoric hunter using a rock to smash open the bone of a freshly butchered mammoth. It's on the website Texas Beyond History, University of Texas, Austin. Click the title link for this and other fine illustrations in the Mural And Diorama Gallery, which shows the murals, paintings, sculptures and dioramas created for the Lubbock Lake Landmark by Nola Davis and Mike O'Brien of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Their work not only qualifies as art worthy of the name, but also serves the useful purpose of bringing archaeological findings vividly to life.
