Lettering Artists

The unsung hero of the art world is the lettering artist. Most folk outside commercial art and the advertising industry don't even realise there are such people as lettering artists, let alone typeface designers. They think it all comes out of a box. The snazzy lettering used for Sex And The City is a fine example of the lettering artist's work. BBC News recently posted an article by Sebastian Lester, typeface designer for Monotype Imaging, on this subject. He pointed out that the typeface used in this movie poster is Trajan, which he describes as "the most used and abused typeface in Hollywood".
