King of Kitsch

In response to that awful statue of Michael Jackson which Mohammed Al Fayed unveiled yesterday, The Telegraph has posted online 16 works featuring Jacko, many of them by David Nordahl (title link). David is a very fine artist, but he was seduced by Jacko's fame and fortune into turning out some very peculiar paintings that pandered to his patron's childish ego and sick need to become white and beautiful. Above is a corner of David Nordahl's painting Camelot (1995) which shows wife Lisa Marie Presley gazing up admiringly at Jacko on his white charger. (That's the horse's tail in the picture, not a medieval hat.) CLICK for Nordahl's Michael, which shows Jacko posing as Michelangelo's statue of David in a painting inspired by Bouguereau's The Return of Spring (1886). I put both paintings together for comparison.

It's "Wacko", not "Whacko", you idiot. Learn how to spell before opening a blog. It helps.
