Tate's Film

Today Tate Passé unveiled its latest load of tripe in the Unilever series for its Turbine Hall: an 11-minute silent movie projected onto a giant monolith. It's by Tacita Dean. She's turned Cinemascope through 90 degrees to mourn the passing of the chemically unstable medium Film. Truly passé, a throwback to the days when cinema was known as "the flicks". But no ice cream, no popcorn, no peanuts and no usherettes with torches. Punters can grope their way round a darkened Turbine Hall for free. Boring.
