Olympic Arty Farty

A few days ago I watched a BBC London News video in which David Mellor expressed his concern that the Cultural Olympiad will be "elitism piled on elitism" and that it is in danger of being "arty farty" (CLICK). This brings me to Sir Nicholarse Cirrhosis - No 6 in ArtReview magazine's most powerful people in the art world 2011 - who today presided over the unveiling of a series of 12 arty farty Olympic and Paralympic posters by some of the UK's worst elite artists (title link). BBC News fell all over itself to interview Tracey Emin (CLICK). Anthea Hamilton's Divers is the best of a very bad bunch. Only two other artists made the slightest effort to create art: Sarah Morris and Michael Craig-Martin. The rest just churned out their usual trash. CLICK for a dreadful BBC News slide show. And remember, these posters are supposed to showcase Britain's artistic talent! Groan!
