Les Patterson Wins

That Australian joke the Archibald Prize is back again. Some very talented artists submit portraits for this award, but the deadbeat judges always select the worst painting they can find as their winner. I guess they think that praising tripe puts them one step ahead of the plebs. What is unique to this show is the Packing Room Prize, which is voted for by the people who unpack all the exhibits for the show. Not for the first time the prize goes to Tim Storrier, this year for his portrait Dr Sir Leslie Colin Patterson KCB AO (2014). Barry Humphries in his guise as the Australian Cultural Attache Sir Les Patterson posed for this portrait. CLICK to view the shortlisted entries for the Archibald Prize. Believe it or not, there are some excellent portraits.

It's all about marketing and promotion Ian.. the controversies keep the media coming back. It's really just a big chook raffle, but I do like how it gets the regular guy on the street talking about art.

Hi, Dion

Yes, it's a bit like our Turner Prize and a few other Brit. awards. Keep the press coming and get the punters bemoaning the state of modern art. Did you see the media circus round Tracey Emin's My Bed? What a joke!

By the way, the Archibald kids show a lot of talent.
