Coxsoft The Detective

Sir Peter Lely - Portrait of Oliver Cromwell; left Fake, right Original (1653-54)Here are two portraits of Oliver Cromwell allegedly by Sir Peter Lely. The one on the left is from the FBI website showing works of possibly stolen art from the William Kingsland collection. The one on the right is the original, which I believe remains in the possession of the Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery (title link). So, it looks as though the criminals who were selling William Kingsland stolen works of art were also selling him fakes. How unscrupulous can you get! (I've notified FBI Special Agent Jim Wynne of my suspicion.) See the next post down for further details.
