Nancy Foulds

If you happened to notice a hearse being driven through London this week holding a coffin bearing the floral tribute "BASTARD", that was a publicity stunt for Nancy Foulds' latest exhibition Un-think, which opens tomorrow at the new Pertwee, Anderson & Gold gallery in Bateman Street, Soho. As you might be able to guess, Nancy has a sense of humour, but it's humour with bite. If you're of a religious bent, you might not appreciate it. Her Madonna and Teddy Bear (2010) strongly hints that gods are merely reassuring cuddly toys for adults who refuse to grow up. Her Holy War (2010) is a pottery sculpture of a hand grenade bearing religious motifs, indicating the insane, homicidal nature of religious conflicts.
