Olympic Torch 2012
Despite the tedium of daily updates from BBC London News on the current status of Olympic doings, this first glimpse of the London 2012 Olympic Torch stirred my interest (title link). East End designers Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby, who trade under the name Barber Osgerby, have created an extremely elegant design. It's only flaw is that ghastly Olympics 2012 Logo, with which they were lumbered. The torch is a rounded triangle made of two skins of gold-coloured aluminium alloy folded into a tapering cone. Its three sides represent London's third Olympic Games, also the three-word motto of the Games: Faster, Higher, Stronger. Each torch has 8,000 holes to represent the 8,000 runners who will carry them around the UK. It is both light and tall, because half the bearers will be aged between 12-24 years (CLICK).
