Riots in Ilford

I've been browsing for the latest news of riots in Ilford, my home town. I found a YouTube video of a skirmish in central Ilford yesterday afternoon (title link). "Officers under attack outside Centreway. Nice, Love it," says the thug using the video recorder. Do I detect a West Indian accent? Among the 70+ comments on this video was confirmation that Cineworld has been "trashed". The full comment is a bit racist: "You can watch 'The Rise of Planet of the Apes' on Sky News .... since these monkeys have trashed Cineworld" (Asian comment). Other comments reveal that white and Asian youths were also involved in the confrontation with police. The Ilford Recorder concentrates on yesterday's "lockdown" (CLICK) and the BBC Redbridge web page hasn't been updated since November 2008 (CLICK). So much for BBC local TV! The photo shows a very thin line of riot police guarding Ilford Police Station yesterday while local shops were being looted. Self-defence first.

The Met. has drafted huge numbers of police officers into London to stop any more riots here, but they're rioting in the Midlands and up North now. See my blog for the latest.

And the police and local councils are cash-strapped with budget cuts. So I can't see a big rebuild any time soon.

As for parents, I suspect they're as afraid of their gangster offspring as much as the neighbours are. These teenage gangs have been ruling ghetto estates for far too long. They think they can get away with anything!
