Samian Sibyl Saved

Giovanni Barbieri's The Samian Sibyl (1651) has been saved for the nation through the Acceptance in Lieu Scheme, which allows artwork to be off-set against inheritance tax. It will go on display at the National Gallery in London from tomorrow, 8 March. Barbieri is better known by his nickname Guercino, which means "squinter" (title link).
