Lights Out

Here's Piccadilly Circus as it was last night and, to the right, a projection of how it looked a century ago. The London Borough of Westminster displayed a roll of honour of more than two thousand of its residents who fought and died in World War I. Westminster Remembers was also part of the Lights Out across Britain, a commemoration inspired by Britain's then foreign minister Edward Grey, who is quoted as saying on the eve of war "The lamps are going out all over Europe; we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime."
