Art Lampooning Art

3rd Rail Studio Advert featuring Shawn Beek's Pearl 2The idea of artists lampooning overblown works by famous but untalented modern artists appeals to me. So I took an online peek at Art Daily's item on Pot Shots at Hot Shots, a forthcoming group exhibition at 3rd Rail Studio in New Rochelle, New York, from 8 March to 12 April. Oh dear! Turning Vermeer's magnificent Girl with a Pearl Earring (1665) into a zombie isn't my idea of quality lampooning. It pokes no fun at the target work and merely exposes the poor taste of the perpetrator. Lampooning is an art in itself, and this is a clueless and pathetic attempt. Sorry. No sale.
