Statues at Heathrow

One of my niggles with the BBC is that its overpaid journalists often forget to credit the artist when they write an art story, unless he or she is one of those BIG NAMES adored by the Brit. Anti-art Establishment. Here's a case in point. The BBC story about life-size wire sculptures of Tom Daley and Jason Gardner being displayed at Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 completely ignores the artist (CLICK). Her name is Nikki Taylor. I've combined suitable shots: left: Tom Daley statue unveiled at Thermae Bath Spa, top: Jason Gardner statue at Heathrow Airport, bottom: Tom Daley being measured by Nikki. Both athletes she sculpted were carefully measured before she began work on their statues. Click the title link for Nikki's website. CLICK for details of this project, sponsored by Bath City Council, at the Art At The Edge website. Other artists are involved.

Thankyou Coxsoft Art! I'm Nikki Taylor and I'm very grateful for you not only putting the general point but also actually giving my name, as well as all the details, website link and pictures they never put up.

Given that the art can't exist without the artist, you'd think naming him/her would be automatic if the art has any newsworthiness at all. Perhaps I at least feel mildly reassured that its not just me this has happened to, but mainly I'm delighted you managed to find out about me despite the ommissions, and have come out in support to put the record right.

Hi, Nikki

I'm glad you liked my post. Unless your name is Tracey Emin or you've won the Turner Prize, the BBC doesn't want to know.

I think your art is great. So please keep in touch and let me know about any new projects.
